Sealing tapes, insulating tapes & insulating hoses
Sealing or insulating tapes can be used both indoors and outdoors. At Thoenes ®, we offer a range of sealing tapes and insulating hoses with different properties ...
all products
Whether for flaps in furnace construction, as door seals, with or without an adhesive surface – the classic Thoenes ® sealing and insulating tapes are versatile and seal joints and gaps or act as insulating sheathing, thereby protecting against external influences. Thanks to innovative materials, the insulating tapes can also be used in combination with critical temperatures and media. Due to their high flexibility and elasticity, the high-quality insulating and sealing tapes always retain their shape. The Thoenes ® sealing tapes are knitted and consist of materials such as cotton fibres, stainless steel fibres, glass fibres and Belcotex fibres. On request, we can also manufacture the sealing and insulating tapes from other materials. The tapes have a maximum width of 100 mm and a maximum thickness of 3.0 mm. When determining the dimensions, the thread count of the respective material must be taken into account.
Thoenes’ braided sealing tapes ® are used for thermal insulation and are frequently employed in stove and fireplace construction. They are also suitable for sealing pipes, doors and expansion joints. The sealing tapes are manufactured from textured, twisted E-glass fibres and are also available with a self-adhesive backing on request. The fibre textures ensure a high storage volume and thus very good insulation values. The braided insulation tapes can be used continuously at a maximum of 550°C and even briefly at temperatures up to 650°C, as they are non-flammable. The insulating tapes also offer chemical resistance to solvents, fats, oils and low-concentration alkalis and acids. However, they do not offer chemical resistance to phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) and hydrofluoric acid (HF). On request, we can also manufacture the braided insulating tapes from other fibre materials.
The Thoenes ® ePTFE flat sealing tape is available either in 100% multidirectionally expanded PTFE or in 100% monodirectionally expanded, pure PTFE. Depending on requirements, the ePTFE flat sealing tapes are available in FDA-grade (Premium) or as self-adhesive versions. The flat sealing tapes are particularly popular due to their unique properties. They have a temperature resistance range of -268°C to 270°C and are resistant to virtually all chemical substances – with the exception of molten and dissolved alkali metals and elemental fluorine under high pressure and temperature conditions. They are UV-resistant, do not age and adapt perfectly to all surfaces, ensuring that unevenness is well compensated for. Depending on the type of material and the area of application, flat sealing tapes are used in the following sectors:
- Reactors
- Pharmaceutical and food processing plants
- Flue gas systems
- Apparatus engineering
- Enamel-coated systems
- Pumps
- Heat exchangers
- GRPpiping and vessels
- Ventilation systems
- Food processing plants
- and many other areas
PTFE thread sealing tapes from Thoenes ® are made from 100% pure, unsintered PTFE, are grease- and oil-free, FDA-compliant and have a temperature range of -240°C to 260°C, which makes the thread sealing tapes highly temperature-resistant. They are also resistant to aggressive chemical media as well as oils, vapours, petrol, water, gases and oxygen. The PTFE thread sealing tapes protect against corrosion, do not swell, do not age and can be removed without leaving any residue even after several years. They are used in virtually all industrial sectors (e.g. compressed air or steam), domestic installations (e.g. gas or water) and for both right-hand and left-hand threads.
The properties of sealing and insulating hoses
In addition to sealing tapes
,
you can also purchase high-quality insulating and sealing hoses from Thoenes ®. Depending on their material properties, the insulating hoses are suitable for various applications.
The Thoenes ® G280 glass fibre hose is a braided hose made from textured E-glass fibre yarns. The insulating hose is used in all sectors and industries where high temperatures prevail, as it has a temperature resistance of approximately 550°C. The insulation hose is also resistant to solvents, greases, oils and organic acids. Thanks to its mechanical and thermal resilience, as well as its low thermal conductivity, the glass fibre hose is most commonly used for insulating pipes, cables and conduits. The insulation hose is supplied on a roll with a diameter of 5 to 40 mm. We can also supply other dimensions on request.
Thoenes ® K280 ceramic yarn hoses are braided hoses made from ceramic yarn and are highly flexible and mechanically robust. The insulating hoses can be used at temperatures up to 1100°C and have low thermal conductivity. These insulation sleeves are typically used in high-temperature applications as protective insulation for, for example, wires, cables and pipes. The insulation sleeve is supplied as continuous length with Cr-wire reinforcement in diameters ranging from 6 to 25 mm. On request, we can customise the dimensions of the ceramic yarn insulation sleeves to suit your requirements.
