Almost any flat sealing material can be fitted with a PTFE sheath.
It is used in the chemical industry, as well as in the food and pharmaceutical industries. PTFE-sheathed seals allow glass tubes and glass apparatus from laboratory and pilot plants to be connected effectively. However, in large-scale plants too, enamelled, coated or lined pipes can be connected using PTFE-coated flat gaskets. They can also be used as flange connections.
